Joe Morris

CEO, Morris Petroleum

“Their integrity, their honesty, their workmanship, and their communication, are all very important reasons you should consider working with Barlow Construction.”

— Joe Morris, CEO, Morris Petroleum

Would you tell us a little about yourself and your company?

We, my cousin, Charles Morris and I, started Morris Petroleum, shortly after Morris Oil Company split up in 1995. We created the SprintMart brand convenience store and expanded when we purchased a chain of convenience stores in the Tupelo market and in the Natchez area. Building, upgrading, and maintaining a chain of convenience stores is a real challenge. Naturally, we needed someone solid, reliable, and available to help us renovate and maintain our stores.

When you work with Barlow Construction, do they “get it?” Do they understand what you need?

Absolutely, Barlow gets us. Their focus is to give the customer what they need. They want to understand the project and what it’s all about. They ask the right questions and don’t hesitate to ask. They don’t assume.

Do you feel like you have an open line of communication with Barlow?

Yes, it’s important to have one point of contact with someone who’s familiar with your business and understands your needs. What makes it all work is that Joe communicates with his team. Cole Barlow, Joe’s son has now become a part of the conversation and is often our point of contact.

Can you tell us what type of work Barlow Construction does for you?

Barlow has never built a convenience store for us from the ground up, but they have done pretty much everything else. They’ve helped us with remodeling projects. They’ve built enclosures for us, done interior work, and paving work. They’ve helped us renovate some of our offices. Just a wide variety of things.

Does the slogan, “Building Better Together” ring true to you?

Yes, and this not only applies to Barlow Construction, but this is also the way my dad did business and it’s the way we choose to do business today. We want to have long-term relationships with the people that we deal with in business. Having that long-term relationship benefits both parties. When I first heard “Building Better Together”, I thought, “That’s exactly what it should be about.” It gives me comfort to know that’s how Barlow looks at it, too.
